I went to work dressed as an elf, I thought I’d hate working outside Seaside Santas grotto (let’s not get started on that shall we?) but I actually I love it, it’s little to no effort required to be nice and polite and talk to children. Doing this though has raised many of my subconscious eyebrows in shock. The oldest age of a child to go into the grotto is about 8. I am assuming that this is a general thing for any Santas grotto. So what do you expect an 8 year old to ask for? When I was 8 I was asking for Knex (never liked dolls) and anything that involved being creative, there were so many kits in the good old Argos catalogue 10 years ago weren’t there?
But anyway, 8 year olds these days are asking for iPads..seriously. A £400 piece of technology that I highly doubt that they will be able to use 100%, don’t get me wrong I am typing this post on one right now, but I’m 20, an adult (I’d like to think) and I have the money to buy myself one. I am not an 8 year old, I repeat I am not an 8 year old.
Have we really turned into a nation where primary school children are carrying round expensive pieces of technology? Next we will have 5 year olds tweeting…this happens already? No it’s cant.
What is life?
