So it’s a Sunday afternoon, the North West has had a tonne of rain dumped on it (again) and it’s starting to get pretty cold; you could say previous years have started better, possibly. Any way, that’s not what this post is about. This post is about 2016, a brand new year and what I hope it might bring and for the first time in a few years I’m setting myself a few goals to try and achieve along the way.
Be an Explorer
I’m hoping 2016 will be another year that’s full of adventure and exploring (without the need for an Indiana Jones style hat I may add) with an American trip booked for May and talks of a European break at the end of the year I’m hoping to fill random days and weekends with staycations right here in Blighty; there’s so much of this country I haven’t had a chance to see yet, so may as well while I have the chance. Having only been to Scotland once I’m also thinking about looking into either a trip to Glasgow or Edinburgh and after seeing Liv’s recent post I’m up for booking a trip tomorrow!
2016 is the year that I want to work on my photography ability. Now I’m not the owner of a fancy DSLR with lenses and fancy external flashes, however I do have a decent Canon Bridge camera (you can see some of my pictures on it here), a GoPro Hero4 and of course my trusty iPhone. So plenty to work with! One of my main priorities to up the quality of photographs on my Instagram, I’m not overly bothered if there is no theme, but I only want to post clear, sharp and interesting snaps to share with the entire universe and their dogs, mastering a flat-lay is also high up on my list, so I’m going to be searching pinterest for tips and inspiration and hopefully it’s something that I’ll be able to document along the way. Fingers crossed teaching myself to be better with what I have will lead to much better holiday pictures (and hopefully a couple of videos to look back on!)
I know, I know, everyone wants to drink more water and probably fruit infuse it to give added benefit; but in all honesty I just need to take in more fluids on a daily basis. Right now I don’t have a drink around and I couldn’t tell you when the last time was that I had a drink that wasn’t at breakfast. I know, it’s naughty. I drank lots of water to keep me going during my final exams at university and my health and skin reaped the benefits, so as I know it’s something I can work towards I want to try and make sure I drink at least 2 litres (of water or squash) every day.
Experiment in the Kitchen
I blimmin’ adore cooking, but it’s not something I get a great deal of time to do, with working full time so I want to make a conscious effort this year to cook new recipes and try a wide range of new foods. Now I’m not a fussy eater and am happy to try any kind of food, so again I’m going to head over to pinterest to find some new and exciting dishes to make to feed everyone; if they go well then I might even share my findings on here, if however they go -not so great- then I highly imagine that it will be documented all over Twitter…
Did you ever do those summer reading challenges at your local library when you were little? The ones where you had to read a book a week to get a special stamp on a card? Well I was the kid who read about 3 books a week, at least. Reading has always been something I’ve loved to do, getting lost in someone else’s words and having your imagination take over is one of the best ways to spend an afternoon. So I think it’s time I picked up a book again. I’m currently staring at a pile of Game of Thrones books that I haven’t gotten through yet, so maybe 2016 is the year that I finish them all. Hey reading might teach me a couple of new words as well, after all you’re never too old to stop learning!
So 2016, if you could maybe give me a hand and give me a bit of time to try and complete some of these goals? Just a few hours a week, and the odd food shop and I might of actually have mastered something by the close of the year. Lets see eh?
