I’ve spoken about how much I love my local BBQ restaurant before (see here, where it makes my must visit food places in Chester) so it comes to no ones surprise that when their autumn week offers launched I had my visits penned in my diary as quick as you can say BBQ.
They offer four standard offers that run from Monday to Thursday (and they’ve just introduced a Christmas offer which runs everyday) and I went down, over the space of two weeks to try my two favourites from the sound of the line-up. First up was the All Day Brew & Cue, which contains:Kansas, Memphis and Beef ribs, a BBQ smoked sausage (that has cheese oozing out of it!), a smoked chicken drumstick, pulled pork and pitt beans, fries, fresh ‘slaw and an ice cold beer (I swapped and had a soft drink) all for £15, yeah that’s right, an unfinishable plate of amazing BBQ goodness and a drink for £15. The meat was incredible, and it was a lovely way to try lots of different smoked meats from the menu. As always everything was perfect- and I don’t know how they make those sausages but they are seriously magical. I’d take elasticated trousers for this meal, and be prepared to hit the meat wall that they talk about in Man’v’Food. It’s that damn good.
The next offer I wanted to try was the Winner Winner Fried Chicken Dinner (if just for the novelty of asking for that meal) as it included white gravy. One of my favourite things in America (I adore biscuits and gravy!). This includes five (I think) pieces of fried chicken, thats been rubbed in one of their famous rubs and fried until it’s super juicy and crispy, with their skin on fries and that adorable bucket of white gravy. This came with either a root beer or cream soda (turns out I’m not the biggest fan of root beer at all) all for £10 (I know! £10!). Again I didn’t and couldn’t finish this plate of food, I hit a chicken wall if you will, but it was some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had- and that’s saying something.
These offers run throughout the day and I really recommend checking them out while they’re running; if you’re Christmas shopping in Chester how else should you reward yourself after walking around all the shops and trying to buy everything in the Disney Store (or it that just me?)
You can read more about Hickorys here (there’s a couple of branches now too!) but for all BBQ lovers it’s a must visit!
